Kyra Solutions Awarded Connecting Vehicles using Smartphones as a Sensor Surrogate (CV SaaSS) Contract by the Florida Turnpike Enterprise

The Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) awarded Kyra Solutions, Inc. (Kyra) the Connecting Vehicles using Smartphones as a Sensor Surrogate (CV-SaSS) system contract. This new system is an innovative component of the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) smart infrastructure and connected and automated vehicle (CAV) initiative aimed at providing safety solutions to motorists.  

Kyra’s smartphone application will emulate Connected Vehicle On-Board Unit (OBU) data, perform algorithms using smartphone data to detect unsafe driving conditions, and generate system-wide and user-based alerts in near real-time to all stakeholders. This system, which will be integrated with FDOT’s existing systems and applications to maximize benefits for Vision Zero mission, will use audible alerts to minimize driver distraction.
